Models…

Do physicists work with models? Yes… but do people have to work with models? No… essentially the role of science is to describe reality and not to construct models. The fact that we think at this moment that models are a way of describing reality is circumstantial. The study of a model is sometimes useful because it may simplify a situation but it is not reality. We forgot what the study of reality implies and that has very little to do with models. The study of a model is irrelevant if not connected to reality. Now, don’t understand me wrong: you can study properties of a model and design a new, maybe better model but reality has some sort of generality that is far more important than this or that model…
